Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  As a child I used believe that werewolves were real and that if I went outside during a full moon that I would be killed by them. I began believing in them after I watched "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" because in that movie there's a scene where one of the main characters transforms and tries to kill Harry and Hermione. I also believed they were real after watching Micheal Jacksons "Thriller" music video one Halloween which caused me to refuse to go trick or treating that year Summary: We took a quiz on the play "fences" Reflection:  I learned more about the play "Fences"

Before watching the movie clips, you probably formed your own picture of the characters, their personalities, and how certain scenes would look. Choose one character or scene that appeared differently in the movie than you imagined while reading. What was different, and did the movie change how you understood that character or scene?

Prompt Response:  In the scene were Troy reveals that he got another women pregnant the way I portrayed Rose in my head was very different than the film. When reading her lines I imagined her as much more put together, calm, and stern compared to her deservedly emotional response from the movie. This scene changed how I saw Rose as through the book I imagined her as a very unemotional and almost unaffected by Troys actions while the movie shows just how hurt she is by what Troy has done to her. Summary: We watched movies clips from the film "fences" that corresponded with scenes we had just read Reflection:  I learned more about the characters in "Fences" due to seeing them portrayed by actors

Troy’s revelation changes his relationship with Rose. Do you think one major lie or betrayal can permanently change how you see someone, even if you have known and trusted that person for years? Explain your reasoning and how trust can or cannot be rebuilt.

Prompt Response:  I believe that depending on the severity of the lie it could or could not permanently change how I see someone. If the lie was akin to infidelity or illegal activity, things that would emotionally impact me, it would permanently change how i view someone. If it was a lie about finances, family issues, or past experiences/trauma for example while it would definitely give me a new perspective on that person It would probably not permanently change how I view them as a person. Summary: we continued to read the play "Fences" Reflection:  I learned more about the play "Fences"

In Scene 4, Troy explains his beliefs about his responsibilities as a father. Beyond providing food, clothing, and shelter, what do you believe a parent owes their child emotionally? Should love, encouragement, friendship, and support be expected, or are those things separate from a parent’s responsibilities? Explain your perspective.

Prompt Response:  I believe that a parent does owe their child emotional support on top of all their preexisting requirements. If someone chooses to have and keep a child it is your responsibility to ensure that your child grows up living a happy fulfilled life. Having a child with the knowledge that you will not give your all to make sure your child lives a happy life makes you a selfish person who wont truly care for their children. Friendship, encouragement, and love are all a parents responsibility to give to the child that they decided to keep and look after. Summary: we continued to read the play "Fences" Reflection:  I learned more about different perspectives on what a parent owes their children

In Scene 4, Troy talks about his past, his responsibilities, and the choices he has made in life. Have you ever had to choose between something you wanted to do and something you needed to do? What influenced your decision, and were you satisfied with your choice?

Prompt Response:  I have had to choose between doing something i wanted to and doing something i needed to do. It mostly boils down to the things I need to do is something I don't find interesting, fulfilling, or useful while what I want to do fits those descriptions. My parents and future responsibilities/repercussions are almost always what push me to choose what I need to do over what I want to do. Summary: We worked on our scene 2-4 character STEAL analysis Reflection:  I learned more about the character of Bono

In Fences, the fence is a physical object, but it can also represent the emotional or personal barriers people create. Think about a “fence” you have built in your own life. What were you trying to keep out or protect yourself from? Did that fence help you or hold you back? Explain.

Prompt Response:  A fence that I have built in my life was refusing to let other know the real me in elementary and middle school. I was made fun of my whole young life so i eventually just decided to not let anyone know me so they couldn't make fun of me. I definitely held myself back by not allowing people to get close to me until high-school. Summary: We began reading the play "Fences" aloud Reflection:  I learned more about August Wilsons play "Fences"

In Fences, Troy makes it clear that he believes his main responsibility as a father is to provide for Cory, not necessarily to like him or make him happy. Do you think parents have to like their children, or is it enough for them to love, provide for, and take care of them? Explain the difference between loving someone and liking someone. Do you agree or disagree with Troy's view of parenting? Explain your response and make a personal or real-world connection.

Prompt Response:  Yes i believe that parents should like their children because u can't truly love someone without liking someone. You can like someone without loving them but in my opinion you cant love someone without liking them, if you love but don't like you just pretend to care about someone because you feel obligated too. Summary: We continued reading through "Fences" Reflection:  I learned more about the characters in the play "Fences"

In Fences, Lyons asks his father, Troy, to lend him money. Do you think adult children should ask their parents to borrow money, or should they be expected to handle their financial problems on their own? Explain your opinion and connect it to your own experiences, observations, or beliefs about family and money.

Prompt Response:  I think its a very situational question whether or not adult children borrow their parents money. If the child is being a freeloader and not trying to learn or get their own sense if income than those children don't deserve to borrow money and need to learn finances. If the child is normally very financially responsible and pays their parents back then they do deserve the opportunity to ask their parents to borrow money Summary: We continued reading "Fences" and took notes Reflection:  I learned more about STEAL, connotation, denotation, and characterization

After watching your classmates present their identity masks, think about how people are often more complex than what we see on the outside. What did the presentations teach you about looking beyond the surface when getting to know someone?

Prompt Response:  The masks taught me that theres always more to people than meets the eye. Its important to get to know someone before making assumptions about them purely by how they look instead of how they really are. Theres always more to someone than meets the eye and the masks we created are a good way tp convey to others who u truly are Summary: We presented our Cultural Identity masks Reflection:  I learned more about my classmates cultural identity

In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

Prompt Response:  A time I felt like I truly belonged was when I began participating in musical theater at school. The musical theater community at lakeside high-school are very accepting and supportive towards who I am as a person. Ive made countless friends through theater and I wouldnt trade the theatrer community for any other program at lakeside high-school.  Summary: We completed a common-lit about the importance of social interaction both in real life and online Reflection:  I learned more about the importance of social interaction

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt response: I fear I have overcome is my phobia of insects also know as Entomophobia. I've had this phobia ever since I was a young child and it worsened when I began scouting and subsequently went camping almost every weekend. While I haven't fully overcome my fears it has lessened significantly, I have no fear of small bugs in any capacity and bugs that I know cant hurt me don't send me screaming anymore. The times where they still terrify me now are if they fly near me (especially if its around my head), if I know that it can hurt me (stinging, biting, disease, ect), and if its large (big roaches, beetles, hornets).  Summary: We worked on our cultural identity mask reflection page Reflection: I learned more about how to interpret the drawings and symbols on my mask into writing
